This is what i did:
Hover on "Network" > Contacts > Settings (icon on top right)
It showed me exact number of 1st degree LinkedIn connections.

                  Ok, I found it!! :) thanks to this article http://www.blogging4jobs.com/social-media/500-how-many-linkedin-connections-do-they-really-have/

                  simple:
                  search for your name in the search box
                  when you appear, don't go on your profile but just click on the green mention "500+"
                  at the top, you will something like "611 results", this is the total number of your connections :)

                  ps: sorry if someone already gave this indication but I hadn't understood it this way...

                    Hi, when you have 500+ connections, the exact number doesn't appear anywhere..."500+" appears everywhere.
                    So in that case, is there a way to find out how many connections we have? (I tried each tip you gave but n/a for 500+). THANKS!
