Your name upper right
SETTINGS
look far left...CHANGE OR ADD

ONE account and TWO emails for it is insurance. The reverse is NOT what LInkedIn wants to see, although it happens for numerous reasons.

Does your solution only work for people who pay for Linkedin? I need to change my email address, and what you wrote didn't work for me.

I'm having the same problem. I want to remove my "primary email address" which is no longer valid but there is no option to "remove" it. I tried signing in on another email, but i still didn't have the option to remove the primary email. Any ideas? Thanks!

For an email to be added to a profile, it must NOT be used on another profile and must be unique to that profile. You can add as many email addresses as you have (and you should add them all) but each must be unique).

So to answer your question, yes, once LI removes the duplicate profile, you will be able to add that address to this profile.

I was having the same problem, but figured out how to do this. When you log in, access the ACCOUNT menu on lower left side of screen, select "Add & change email addressess" under "Email & Password." Add your new mail address, which needs to be verified first before you can make it the "primary" email account associated with your Linked-in account. After the Primary email address is changed, the old email address may be deleted.

I registered with Linkedin over 4 years ago, using our Company's official email address, which is pkcama@cama-aviation.com. Whenever I am asked to log in to access certain sites, the message I receive is "we do not support web based email addresses". I am a member of every Aviation site on Linkedin, and receive over a 100 mails per day. But now this address is not acceptable to Linkedin. Can someone help me understand this. Thank You.

Here's the problem. My old email address has been diconnected. I too created a new Linked In account with my new email hoping I could merge the two accounts, but there is no way to access a deleted email. There seems to be no way to remove the original account.

Guys, I can reply to postings, send invitations to join, just about everything with my originally registered email address, as above, [email removed].... However, there are tabs to click on to (for example) "who has seen your profile", and you have to put in your email address and password. The minute I insert my email address, in the box given by linkedin, I get the message "web based addresses are not acceptable". My question is - what should I do? My address is a Company address, registered around the World, but Linkedin rejects it, as a web based address.

Phiroze - you must understand that LinkedIn only ask for your email address in two circumstances 1) when you sign in to the system you are asked for your login email address (this can be any confirmed address you have on Settings) and your LinkedIn password to be able to access LinkedIn and do all the things you mentioned (send invites and so on).

The second time LinkedIn asked for an email address from you is when they are trying to get your permission to import your email address book from your email server. In this instance, they will request your email address and your EMAIL password (which should be different than your LinkedIn password and is set at your email server).

The system needs both to get permission from your server to download the address book. This is NOT a requirement for any other action on LI other than importing so if you don't want to import, ignore the request and close the page. LInkedIn has negotiated and programmed importing only from the major email providers (gmail, hotmail, yahoo and so on) and can not import from private email servers (like yours) hence you get that message. You can still import your email address book if you wish by exporting your contact list into a .csv file from your email program and then importing the file directly.

                      pls help

                      Divya.
Go to the right hand corner of your home screen and click on either your name or profile head/shoulders, go to privacy & settings or just settings.

Go to email tab under you name and follow instructions to add remove email.

Once you've added it, click to send an email to yourself.

Once you have this email, open it and find the link to respond back to confirm the new email address. This may not work first time but give it 5 to 10 minutes and retry.

If successful the 'make primary' tab will appear, it will not be there if you don't respond to the email from LinkedIn.

It can be frustrating, good luck.
                      Mike Murphy.
