i know that when I first started with LI, you could ask your connections to endorse you for specific skills. This was helpful if you were currently or had previously worked with the connection. Currently I do not see a way to ask for endorsements. I would hope that LI will correct that discrepency and put the link back in place so that we can request endorsements from our colleagues and classmates.

Certainly we can ask, and to me you bring up a good point:
Instead of LI asking people to endorse us for ABC, why can't
we ask LI to ask people to endorse us for CBA? Like a wedding gift registry.

In EDIT PROFILE, you can MANAGE YOUR ENDORSEMENTS by unchecking,
saving all the endorsements by people, so they are hidden but don't show.

By hiding them you can change your mind later. Then by reducing the number
of endorsements for skills you don't want to emphasize, the skills you do will start to rank higher.

Please let me know if you have an answer. This issue is resulting in the suppression of endorsements for skills learned in my new career!

You could send them an email and request.

I have many skills that have not been endorsed. How do I get them endorsed?

Here's how you do this: Ask connections to go to your profile, scroll to the skills section, and click on the plus symbol after the skills you want more endorsements for.

You can request endorsements from connections by messaging them directly and asking them to visit your profile and endorse you for whichever of your listed skills you want. You can manage endorsements by entering your profile's edit mode then clicking the edit link in the "Skills & Expertise" section. From here you can add and remove skills altogether or manage your skill endorsements by choosing which of your contacts' endorsements are displayed.

                Hope this helps.

linked in needs to look at this feature , we need desperately this one. because of this issue the real skills are not getting highlighted and endorsed.

This is a troubling feature (or lack thereof) because I know several of my connections on LinkedIn know I'm good at several of my focus', but are simply too busy to go to my page and endorse those (or maybe they're simply too lazy)
